Client Spotlight - Pajarito Elementary School

A Targeted Opportunity for Transformation

Through a targeted grant initiative by the New Mexico Department of Education, five elementary schools in Albuquerque Public Schools were identified for support due to low performance of students with disabilities on state assessments. Each school was given the opportunity to collaborate with an external organization to build more inclusive practices. Among them, Pajarito Elementary has emerged as a model of progress—thanks to strong site-based leadership and a dynamic partnership with Stetson & Associates, Inc.

Strategic Collaboration in Action

Under the leadership of Principal Debra Larribas, Pajarito Elementary worked closely with Stetson & Associates to implement a tailored plan for school improvement. Services provided through the grant included:

  • Customized professional development for faculty
  • Instructional coaching and classroom walkthroughs
  • A comprehensive review of special education resource allocation
  • Collaborative development of a school-based improvement plan

Due to the district’s limited number of professional development days, much of the training was delivered through job-embedded support—making it both timely and practical for classroom implementation.

Results That Matter

The collaboration has led to meaningful shifts in instructional practice. Teachers have shown marked growth in their use of differentiated strategies, scaffolding techniques, and flexible grouping. Just as significantly, the school has increased its inclusion ratio and expanded opportunities for special educators to provide in-class support—moving away from a pull-out model toward a more inclusive instructional environment.

Leadership That Inspires

A major factor in the school’s progress has been the active engagement and instructional leadership of Principal Larribas. She participated in all aspects of the professional development and follow-up process, from walk-throughs to coaching conversations, reinforcing expectations and encouraging continuous growth. Her hands-on involvement signaled a campus-wide commitment to change—and teachers responded enthusiastically, not only applying new strategies but also seeking additional tools to support their students.

A Shared Commitment to Student Success

Stetson & Associates, Inc. is proud to have partnered with Pajarito Elementary in this important work. The outcomes of this project reflect what is possible when strong leadership, strategic collaboration, and evidence-based practices come together in service of inclusive education.
